I don't mind viewing ads to make some pennies for content creators, but does it have to be adfly? That site is CONSTANTLY trying to push malware on me and it's to the point where I'll give up on the content or find an alternate source rather than let its ads load. I want to be responsible about content without being irresponsible about my hard drive.
ReplyDeleteI really don't know what is the best alternative to adfly or if this problem happens only with a few people, I always have my Adblock disabled with all the adfly links for support others creators, my antivirus works fine and I never had that problem. Send me an email for give you another download link without adfly.
DeleteIf it helps, knowing how adfly works helps a lot. A false ad loads while a countdown to a link shows in the top right corner. The link (usually in yellow) takes you to the download. Any other pop-up or main-screen ad should be ignored. It's really easy to get sucked into pop-ups that say "Download is now ready" ... but that will usually lead to malware. It took me a while to learn the system, but hope this helps :)
DeleteEvery time I try to download something with an AdFly ad, I get a fake update your browser ad. Often, even when the skip a button comes up, it just opens ANOTHER ad. Find another way to fund your work.

ReplyDeleteSo I tried downloading via Adfly and I ignored the sign saying I had to disable adblock. Next thing I know, it pushed me to install SD-extension for Chrome. As soon as I did that, I got a warning that someone tried to hack my computer and that Norton Antivirus stopped it.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I'm considered, Adfly is the WORST way to make it download-able. I can imagine you choose that deliberately so that people visit your Patreon. Why else wouldn't you upload it to Loverslab, like everyone else? You've been in touch with Turbodriver, he/she knows how to help you with that. So my guess is you let people get frustrated and then go to your Patreon and make a monthly pay, just to not have being wasting their time. Is that your tactic? Or is there something wrong with loverslab?
I don't mind paying once for something, but Patreon is monthly and I do not want that.
Okay, apparently I cannot delete my comment ánd it's somehow anonymous. Anyhow: I've figured it out. I thought I knew how the site worked, but indeed, Adf.ly needs to disable adblock and as soon as you click on anywhere on the page (including right mouse button click), it opens an ad. The second page isn't the page for downloading, ITS THE AD.

Clicking skip this Ad (which iirc used to work) now just opens popup windows, I'm constantly asked to allow notifications (and goodness knows what clicking "no" actually does) and getting warnings about trojans etc all over the place.

Many people have already said the AdFly link is trashed (AdFly in general is horrible, btw), and while you say you are hosting it for free on your Patreon, it isn't actually free. Have to subscribe to get to the link. Plus, seeing how many ads/bloat messages are in the comments feed, I am guessing this mod hasn't been touched in at least a year. I will never understand why people can't host things like this where everyone else does (LoversLab), or else get all of the "required" files together, as part of a package deal. Otherwise, folks will be missing out on some of the WickedWhims features.
